KLCA 2023 Regatta

The KLCA is excited to announce that the Regatta will be occurring this summer at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday August 5, 2023, at Moorelands Camp. The rain date will be on Sunday, August 6th.

We are looking forward to another wonderful day of catching up and making new friends and memories! Swimming races, canoe races, beach games (sandcastle building, relays, balloon toss and everyone's favorite, the egg toss)! There will also hopefully be raffles with various prizes and of course, the famous Volunteers' barbeque. Remember to bring cash for the Raffles and BBQ!

Thank you to all that attended the Regatta last summer.  It was wonderful to be able to get together after the last few years.  A huge thank to all the volunteers that are responsible and contributed their time and energy to help make this day happen.   Unfortunately, Covid hit a few of our key leaders but we had some of our community members graciously step in!  A very special thanks to Steve and Cathy Lawrynuik and family, Kathleen Hedley, Karin Ibsher, Heather Fletcher, Sue and Lizzy Walker Frank, Janice, Jade and Wes Hope Walker, Peter Evans, Robert Bill, Will Boake and his fabulous team, and Margret Smith.  There were many others that also volunteered their time to make this a great event.  THANK YOU!

As you know the Regatta runs strictly on volunteers. Please consider volunteering your time at the event. It could consist of a small amount of time commitment before, during, or after the event, leaving you free to enjoy the event as usual. Please contact the KLCA at info@klca.org for more information or daries.k@yahoo.com

There are many positions available:

·       Judging Canoe/Swimming races

·       Assisting with Beach Games

·       Totaling scores (Trophy table)

·       Set up/clean up

·       Food

·       Raffle table (lead needed)

·       Collecting donations

We are looking for a Lead for the Raffle for it to continue and as always prizes would be needed for the raffles, you can drop them off at the Regatta or it can arranged to have them picked up, please message me at daries.k@yahoo.com

Moorelands Camp is an integral part of our Kawagama Lake history. They offer subsidized camp sessions to children from Toronto the opportunity to experience the North. For many of these children it will be the first time swimming in a lake, gazing at the stars or paddling in a canoe. Not only does a portion of your membership contribute to sending a child to have the Camp experience, but money raised at the Regatta also supports the Camp itself.

Reminders:

Please keep in mind that the Regatta is intended for KLCA members and their guests only. Renew your membership if you haven't already at www.klca.org.

Please note that as per camp policy, dogs, and alcohol are not allowed on campgrounds. We use camp canoes so no need to bring your own.

Hope to see you all there!
